Learning Lassie’s Lessons: # 4 Scout's Honor

The dictionary defines honor as high respect; public regard in adherence to what is right or accepted behavior.

Honor is something that Joan Neidhardt and Cathy Schmidt of lassie.net know nothing about. Because they do not understand the meaning of honor, they cannot practice it. If they cannot practice it, then they cannot possess it.

Joan has now changed her blog from what she initially had posted in “Is Bob Weatherwax Angry at lassie.net?” I will now address those changes.

“We’ve become aware of a bevy of negative statements being made about us.”

-Post from Joan Neidhardt on her revised blog-

Joan, it’s really funny that you consider my statements about you as negative. If the truth is negative, then yes, they are negative statements. Truth is something that you apparently cannot comprehend – apparently cannot fathom – and you cannot seem to put into practice. You hide the truth about every situation that comes up regarding Lassie. You have created this world in your own little mind – of which lassie.net is an extension – about you and Cathy being the ultimate overseers of Lassie and Lassie’s image. With the fixes and changes and backpedaling you’re constantly doing, it would seem that this endeavor is your only reason to exist. In every respect, you still get it wrong, starting from considering yourselves the epitome of Lassie in every respect.

Let’s be philosophical for a moment. Why do you and Cathy think you are responsible for Lassie? Do you now own the trademark? Do you make the decisions for the corporate owner of Lassie? Exactly where does your ownership of Lassie come into the picture?

The actual dog embodying the spirit of Lassie is owned by one person only – Bob Weatherwax. Loving Lassie is a privilege (not a right) granted to all of us in the world who respect and adore Lassie – the true fans. Nowhere in the picture is there room for two people who falsely pose as the only people in the world who have a right to Lassie. Fans know their place; you’ve used your position to gain clout and your own 15 minutes in the spotlight. Never have I seen something so loved by the public abused in such an egotistical way. If you had influence or clout, it’s about time you faced the fact. IT’S OVER! You are relics whose time has passed.

“It can be somewhat disturbing, yet humorous, to watch a fan in the middle Midwest, who doesn’t have all the facts, create fantasies about us that are so different from reality.”

-Joan Neidhardt, on her Lassie Barker blog-

Yes, I am the fan you are referring to and I am proud of the fact. I do not know what facts you think I don’t have. I have more facts than you can imagine. Do you want to test me on that? I also have your own words, printed plainly on your site, or do you deny that too?

I don’t have to create fantasies about you. They’re up there on your website for the world to see. Time for a trip to rehab to reconnect some synapses that have snapped? Reality is all around you, but perhaps that’s difficult to manage. It must be much easier and so comforting to live in a fantasy world all your own and one so far from reality.

“But it’s not funny to see this kind of tactic being used in a way that presents Bob as a bitter, angry man who hates everyone who once worked with him and supported him for many years.”

-Joan Neidhardt, in her revised blog-

I don’t speak for Bob. I speak for myself. Ever heard of a watchdog or a whistleblower? But, don’t pay any attention to me. Bob can say it better than anyone. Hurry up now, Joan. Give Cathy a call. Bob has a new blog up at www.weatherwaxtraineddogs.com.
