To anyone who
has ever loved a collie, whether by owning one of the magnificent dogs, or
by watching the most famous one on television – Lassie – this book will
appeal to you. This is not the standard breed book that has been produced in
great number. It does not tell you how to raise and train a collie, but
rather, it shows examples of why we love the collie. The Romance of the
Collie is a nonfiction work on exploits and accomplishments of the collie, a
breed with a reputation of loyalty that surpasses many other breeds.
Included in the
book are stories of undying loyalty, of fame and fortune in movies and
television for one special collie, the history of the collie, a look at
Albert Payson Terhune and the famous collies that lived at Sunnybank,
collies in the White House, military service, in literature and art, and a
look at collies in the world of children’s toys. Interspersed throughout the
book will be vintage advertisements, postcards, and photos, all featuring
the glorious collie.
The foreword is by famed Lassie owner and trainer, Bob Weatherwax, the
greatest collie trainer of all time. He’ll be giving his thoughts on the
collie breed.
Cover art will be by Karen St. Jean, who will grace the cover with one of
her beautiful paintings of the collie.
The Romance of the Collie is scheduled to be published in 2007.
